The Volcan Mountain Foundation's annual Sustaining Friends Fall Visioning Day is Sunday, October 15th, 2017. We'll again be gathering at Spencer Valley School in nearby Wynola.

There is no event charge for this essential connection and visioning gathering of the Sustaining Friends group, but it's important that you register using the form below.

We had such great feedback about last year's presentations for the Visioning Day that we've lined up new presentations that highlight some of the conservation activities that VMF is working and partnering on.

Meg Diss is the new Trails Program Coordinator with our partners at San Diego County Parks & Recreation. She is connecting with community groups like VMF to share work that the county is doing on the County's Community Trails Master Plan, new Preserve Trail Guidelines, regional trails such as the Trans County Trail, and more. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback to the county.

For the past year or so, VMF has been pleased to partner with the Julian Dark Skies Network (JSDN), led by Doug Sollosy of local community observatory Curiosity Peak. Doug will tell about star parties hosted at the Volcan Mountain Wilderness and Santa Ysabel Preserves by JSDN in partnership with County Parks. He'll also share how protecting spaces like Volcan Mountain is essential in the efforts to preserve our dark skies.

We hope that you will be able to join us from 9:30am-1:00pm at Spencer Valley School in Wynola (see directions below). It is an important opportunity for Sustaining Friends members to help shape the future goals and activities of the Volcan Mountain Foundation.

In addition to informative presentations, Sustaining Friends will share in a visioning session to solicit ideas and suggestions that will be helpful when the VMF Board of Directors meets for their annual retreat in November.

Following lunch you are invited to join us for an optional guided hike at the Santa Ysabel East Preserve up to the West Vista Loop with VMF Board Member and County Park Attendant, Eric Jones. Both a 2 and 4 mile hike option will be offered with an elevation gain of 950 feet. Hikers will be rewarded with panoramic views of the Santa Ysabel valley and westerly hills.
