The History of Volcan Mountain

Throughout its million-plus year history, Volcan has remained virtually undisturbed and shows very little impact from man - hence Volcan retains most of its historic vegetation patterns and diverse plant and animal populations.  The Pines Fire of 2002 and the Volcan Fire of 2005 damaged conifers across hundreds of acres on Volcan, but Nature's process of self re-generation has begun.  Stewardship of the forests is an important goal of our Resource Management Committee and we will be working closely with other agencies to restore Volcan to its former state in those burned areas.
