Learn more about identifying wildlife in San Diego County!  On Saturday, October 11th, from 8am-3pm, the San Diego Tracking Team will be presenting a FREE class that prepares you to participate in field surveys that monitor wildlife in major open space preserves and other critical areas.  All experience levels are welcome to join knowledgeable San Diego Tracking Team instructors at the historic Los Peñasquitos Adobe Ranch House (12020 Black Mountain Road, San Diego, CA 92129) at Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve.

The Volcan Mountain Foundation (VMF) is posting this training as a courtesy because it would be a great help to expanding research on and around Volcan Mountain, to have volunteers that have participated in the SDTT training.  Also, VMF’s partner organizations and agencies have programs that would benefit.

Participants will learn about basic track and scat identification, animal gaits, habitat fragmentation, survey transects, data collection protocols, and conservation. At the end of the class, you can sign up to join experienced trackers on some of SDTT’s wildlife surveys throughout the San Diego area, so bring your calendar!

The class runs from 8 am to 3 pm. Dress prepared to spend time outdoors and bring a sack lunch. No reservation is necessary. Just show up. To ensure that you receive your packet of tracking resource materials, you need to pre-register.  Go to www.sdtt.org for more information and register at info@sdtt.org.  Rain cancels.

The SDTT just forwarded this researcher's request for citizen scientists to forward photos of mountain lion tracks:  WildTrack Mountain Lion Project  Calling wildlife trackers. I need your help to gather photos of left-hind mountain lion tracks for a research project. See the protocol: WildTrack Cougar Protocol
