The Volcan Mountain Foundation turns 25 on October 13, 2013!  We are celebrating this quarter-century milestone with our first-ever Founders’ Day event.  The entire community is invited to join us from 11am-4:30pm at Menghini Winery (1150 Julian Orchards Drive, Julian, CA 92036).  There will be free music and nature fun for families, morning hikes and tours on Volcan Mountain, and local artists and vendors will display their wares.  Members of some of the families with old-time connections to Volcan Mountain will 'spin some yarns' and add some local lore to the party.

Everyone is invited to get the morning started by hiking Volcan Mountain guided by long-time docent, Sally Snipes.  Meet at 10am at the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve-Hubbell Gateway trail head on Farmer Road.  Bring water, wear sturdy shoes, and be prepared for a good uphill hike.

For families with young kids that would like an easier option to discover Volcan Mountain, all ages are invited to join us at 10am for a limited-attendance exploration of the Volcan Mountain Nature Center at the headwaters of Santa Ysabel creek.  You must contact the VMF office no later than Friday, October 11th via phone (760-765-2300) or e-mail to RSVP and confirm space availability.

After the morning hikes, bring a blanket and chairs and get ready to enjoy the festivities in the viewshed of Volcan Mountain at Menghini Winery.  You may bring a picnic lunch or snacks, but no outside alcohol is allowed.  Picnic food will also be available for purchase as a fundraiser for Julian CERT (Community Emergency Response Team).  Beer, wine and hard cider will be available for purchase from Menghini Winery and Julian Hard Cider.

The morning will kick off with music by Haywire, featuring VMF's own Kathleen Beck!  The Human Jukebox-Glenn Smith, The Volcan Mountain Boys and Paul Cruz & Jason Postelnek of Grand Canyon Sundown will keep the celebration going all day.  Throughout the day, be sure and check out the displays by local artists near and dear to Volcan Mountain.  Last, but certainly not least, help us make the celebration complete by sharing in some anniversary cake made with love by our local Candied Apple Pastry Company!
