Nature Education Series: Night Hike and Photography, Saturday, 23, 2023

Date:
Saturday, September 23, 2023 - 7:30pm

Saturday, September 23: Have you ever wondered what your favorite hiking trails and other outdoor spaces look like at night and which secretive nocturnal animals are moving around in those areas? Join Ethan Staats, Marine Biology graduate student at UC San Diego and frequent night-hiker around Southern California, for a 1 1/2-mile, moderate night hike on VMF's Sky Island Trail. Ethan is VMF's 2023 recipient of the Marjorie and Joeseph Rubenson Endowment for art and Science at Volcan Mountain award. To learn more about Ethan Staats' work, go to https://deheynlab.ucsd.edu/staff-members/ethan-staats/

In addition to hiking, Ethan's outdoor hobbies include nighttime photography, so as part of this hike, you're welcome to bring a camera to discuss and practice nighttime photography. You can see Ethan's photography at https://www.instagram.com/ethan.staats.

Note that bringing a camera and taking photographs are not required for those who just want to go on a night hike.
