Surfboard Mosaic Workshop - February 16th, 17th, and 24th 2018

Date:
Friday, February 16, 2018 - 9:00am

Friday, February 16th, 17th & 24th the Ilan-Lael Foundation, located in nearby Wynola, will begin hosting its Surfboard Mosaic Workshop. This will be the first of a series of art workshops that will be held throughout the year.

Join glass artist and sculptress Cherrie LaPorte in a two-day art class at Ilan-Lael with a third-day at Cherrie's studio in Escondido. You’ll make glass mosaics on two surfboards each designed by James Hubbell and executed in Cherrie’s signature mediums of recycled fused, blown, and stained glass.

The delicate contour of surfboards is the perfect shape to complement the flow of glass. Using her expertise in material, color, and design, Cherrie will give you valuable instruction on application and design techniques. The finished designs will be auctioned off at a fundraiser to support the next Pacific Rim Park in Yantai, China happening this summer.

Dates:  Friday, February 16th, Saturday February 17th  and Saturday, February 24th.

Location: the Ilan-Lael Foundation in Wynola on the 16th and 17th and Cherrie’s LaPorte’s studio, Escondido

Cost: $625 per student - Includes materials and lunch on February 16th and 17th

Ilan-Lael is a non-profit arts organization founded by the vision of renowned artist, James Hubbell. Having travelled throughout the world, James developed a strong belief in diplomacy and building international friendships through art. This motivated him to create the Pacific Rim Park, a program of the Ilal-Lael Foundation. But Volcan Mountain, which can be seen from Ilan-Lael's art center, is always close to James heart. In fact, the main entrance to the Volcan Mountain Preserve is designed by James Hubbell. We encourage you to stop by the Preserve to see the Hubbell Gate and go for a hike along Volcan Mountain's Five Oaks Trail.
