Intrepid AmeriCorps volunteers take a break fromo trail building

Volunteers Needed! Sat, Feb 18th for Community Day with AmeriCorps

Volunteers are needed on Saturday, February 18th from 9am-3pm for more trail extension, as well as brushing and clearing around the VMF outdoor classroom picnic area as part of another exciting partnership with AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps.  VMF is once again very grateful that Wynola Pizza Express has generously agreed to provide delicious wood-fired pizzas to feed hungry trail volunteers.

AmeriCorps teams have a tradition of planning a Community Day during each of their assignments.  The two AmeriCorps teams participating are currently based out of Camp Stevens here in Julian, and Agua Caliente, in the desert near Canebrake.  On top of their regularly contracted work for their assignment, members volunteer on a day-off to come together with community volunteers for a big project.  The spring 2011 Community Day with AmeriCorps NCCC built most of VMF’s one-mile long interpretive trail in one day!

All volunteers should wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, long pants, and a hat, and bring water, snacks and sunscreen, and meet at the gate at the very end of Farmer Road at 9am.  It really helps to know ahead of time how many volunteers we have so that we can coordinate ride shares, know how many people we might be feeding, and make sure that everyone is clear on where to meet.  Please contact VMF by Thursday, February 16th at info@VolcanMt.org or 760-765-2300 to sign up and join in the Community Day up at the spectacular grove that is becoming the VMF outdoor classroom.
