Wildcrafting: Summer Wreath and Herbal Salve - Sunday, July 23, 2023

Date:
Sunday, July 23, 2023 - 10:00am

Sunday, July 23: Learn to make your own nourishing herbal salve and wild-crafted crescent moon wreath from seasonal plants that we find at VMF's Volcan Mountain Nature Center.

VMF's Outdoor Naturalist Educator, Janice Smith, will lead a walk around the nature center to identify and collect plants and other botanical items for each project. The plants we choose will be infused into oil to make our herbal salve and to decorate crescent moon wreaths. Crescent moon wreaths are a beautiful and natural way to celebrate the summer season and decorate your home.

Wildcrafting is the age-old practice of collecting or harvesting plants from their natural habitat, or “wild” habitat, for food, medicine, or craft.  It applies to uncultivated plants wherever they might be found and is not necessarily limited to wilderness areas. Ethical considerations and sustainable behaviors are practiced, such as protecting endangered species and avoiding potential depletion of commonly held resources. The practice of sustainable wildcrafting requires making a commitment to develop your knowledge and connection to the natural landscape, deepen your local sense of place, and take responsibility for its regeneration for future generations.
