Sunday, October 11th come learn the art of wildcrafting at the Volcan Mountain Foundation’s Volcan Mountain Nature Center at the headwaters of Santa Ysabel Creek in Julian. VMF’s first wildcrafting event in August, led by Janice Bina-Smith and VMF Education Coordinator Kathleen Beck, was ‘wildly’ popular and filled up very quickly.

Revised 9/21/15: We just received some updated/clarified info from one of our instructors. The October wildcrafting workshop will feature apples, and then there will be a November wildcrafting workshop that will feature acorns.

Fall is upon us! In Julian, that means apple harvest time. Don’t miss this next opportunity to learn about wildcrafting with traditional apples and wild manzanita 'apples' from Janice and Kathleen. Manzanita means 'little apple', referencing the small apple-looking berries on manzanita trees that grow abundantly in San Diego's backcountry. You'll make manzanita sugar and also get to sample and craft with traditional apples from trees that were planted by the Grand family over 70 years ago on what is now VMF's Volcan Mountain Nature Center.

From 10am-1pm. Limited to 12 participants. Activity fee is $20. Bring a 4 oz. jar to fill.

Please RSVP to Nicole at the VMF office no later than Friday, October 9th at 760-765-2300 or admin@volcanmt.org. Due to the gated entry for VMF’s Volcan Mountain Nature Center (22850 Volcan Road, Julian, CA), plan to arrive between 9:45 and 9:55.
