JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Volcan Mountain Preserve Foundation Seeks Executive
Director
Overview
The Volcan Mountain Preserve Foundation (VMPF) is a private, nonprofit
organization
whose mission is to protect and preserve the Volcan Mountain Range in
its natural state.
Position Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for all aspects of managing and
directing
the functions of the Foundation and office operations, public and
private fundraising,
grant writing, board and volunteer development, land acquisition,
networking with
private and public agencies, and creatively advancing the vision of the
board.
Education, Skills and Experience
We are seeking a person who is positive, energetic, and intelligent,
committed to
the preservation of the natural environment and has demonstrated success
and
experience in most of the ED responsibilities listed above.
Excellent public speaking, negotiation, strategic thinking,
interpersonal relations,
coalition-building, and writ ing skills are necessary. Experience in
writing grants, securing large,
private donations and the ability to secure public funding. Must have
excellent administrative
and management skills and substantial experience in directing a complex
and diverse organization.
Must be well-organized, self-motivated, have persistent, goal achieving
instincts, and the ability
to respond to an ever-changing and challenging work environment.
It is preferred but not required that the Executive Director relocate to
the town
of Julian, 65 miles NE of downtown San Diego, for easy access to the
Foundation
office, the Preserve, and Board.
Compensation
Annual salary range: $50,000 - $60,000. Beginning salary commensurate
with qualifications.
Periodic salary increases dependent on performance. Benefits include
medical insurance,
paid vacations and holidays, and sick leave.
The position is an excellent opportunity to live and work in the
beautiful, serene
mountain setting of Julia n, near the desirable, urban setting of San
Diego.
The ED position offers a rare opportunity to work in the environmental
field and
make a lasting difference by protecting Volcan Mountain-a unique,
biological hot
spot that connects a million acres of public lands.
