Private Foundations Support Environmental Goals

As private foundations increasingly support the preservation of our natural environment, Volcan Mountain is benefiting from their attention.

Four private foundations have made significant investments in Volcan Mountain in the last year: The San Diego Foundation, The Colwell Family Fund, The Burnham Foundation, and The Favrot Fund.

The San Diego Foundation is one of the San Diego's most influential forces for philanthropy. Two grants to VMPF have been made to insure the success of VMPF's operational and land acqusition success. One for $25,000 supports VMPF through SDF's Land and Watershed Conservation Initiative. The second grant of $15,000 was awarded by SDF's Organizational Success Program to support Board and Resource Development.

Equally significant are gifts from The Burnham Foundation, The Colwell Family Fund, and The Favrot Fund. Each of these fine family foundations contributed $5,000 to VMPF this year to support the preservation of Volcan Mountain. VMPF is particularly gratified that our vision for preserving a quality of life for future generations of people and wildlife on Volcan Mountain is one they have so generously chosen to share.

San Diego Foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life for San Diego by promoting and increasing responsible and effective philanthropy. Their Enviromental Working Group believes that our quality of life is intimately connected with the natural world that sustains us. Their vision is to promote a better balance between development and the health and sustainability of our environmental resources.

VMPF sees the grant awards as a recognition that the preservation of Volcan Mountain is a quality of life issue for the San Diego region, something we have long maintained.

The importance of support from private foundations like these cannot be underestimated. They are absolutely vital to Volcan Mountain as shrinking public dollars are available. The San Diego Foundation, The Colwell Family Fund, The Burnham Foundation, and The Favrot Fund have demonstrated that they are leading the way.
