VMF Kids' Summer Sessions 2015-First Week: Native Plants of Volcan Mountain, July 6th, 8th & 10th, 8am-11am

Come explore nature with the Volcan Mountain Foundation at VMF’s Volcan Mountain Nature Center along Santa Ysabel Creek with Education Coordinator, Kathleen Beck!

The first week’s session (July 6th, 8th & 10th, 8am-11am) is all about native plants of Volcan Mountain. Kids (ages 5-13) will discover and learn about native plants found on Volcan Mountain by collecting seeds, drawing plants, and plein aire (art outside in nature) painting!

The History of the Cuyamacas and What's Happening to the Oaks, Saturday, May 24th at 10am

Saturday, May 24th, join County Park staff at Santa Ysabel Preserve East for an interesting and informative talk about the history of the Cuyamacas and why the oaks are dying and what we are doing about it.  Meet at the Santa Ysabel East staging area on Farmer Road at 10am. Inclement weather will cancel the event.

Volunteer Trail Service-Santa Ysabel & Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserves, Sunday, May 24th at 10am

Sunday, May 24th, 2015 volunteer for a work project at the Santa Ysabel Open Space & Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserves led by San Diego County Park staff! Enjoy a day of fresh mountain air and the camaraderie of friends and colleagues while making a difference! Projects can include trail maintenance, tree planting trimming vegetation, erosion control and invasive plant removal. Learn proper tool handling and trail building techniques while enjoying scenic views of the surrounding area.

Crafts under the Oaks-Hiking Sticks, Saturday, June 20th, 2015

On Saturday, June 20th join the San Diego County Parks Mountain Borrego Preserve staff and make your own custom hiking stick.  Meet at 10am at the Santa Ysabel Preserve East Staging Area on Farmer Road (117-411 Farmer Road, Julian, CA 92036).  Adventurers of all ages are welcome to join in.  Kids under 12 should be joined by an adult.  Parks staff will provide a variety of

This Sunday, May 17th is the Volcan Mountain Foundation's annual Sustaining Friends Spring Exploration on Volcan Mountain! All Sustaining Friends members are encouraged to join in on this special discovery day with lunch on the mountain, and invite a friend or couple. If you're not already a Sustaining Friend of Volcan Mountain, it's not too late, you can become a member today (see below) and join the outing this Sunday!
