Tracking Team Volcan Mountain

SD Tracking Team at Pinto Ranch

On May 12th at Pinto Ranch a group of 15 teachers and students gathered to attend a beginners' tracking class through the San Diego Tracking Team.  Gary, Rick and Fred led the group through a series of informative tracking slides, demonstrations of various gaits, and "dirt time" exploration.

On our exploration we found evidence of racoon, mule deer, grey fox, coyote, ground squirrel, morning dove, wild turkey, quail and moutain lion!

Our future is in creating a transect someday on Volcan Mountain to determine wildlife corridors and resident animals in the area of our Hunters Camp property on volcan. To do this we will need trackers who have completed the beginners class and many hours of tracking time for Kathleen, who will help to lead us on! If you are interested in becoming a tracker, there is a date for the next tracking class in Rancho Penasquitos on July 21st. Please e-mail or phone (760-765-2300) us if you are interested in being trained as a wildlife tracker and we will help you make the connections necessary to sign you up!
