Join the Volcan Mountain Foundation and partners for a FREE, informative, compelling, and delicious presentation on microplastics within our watersheds!
Enjoy appetizers and craft beer at Second Chance Brewing Company in Carmel Mountain while learning about where microplastics are coming from, what is being learned from collected data, and ways you can help mitigate the problems associated with microplastics.
VMF's is pleased to co-host this event with our partners at the San Diego River Park Foundation and San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy. The presentation runs 40 minutes with time for questions and enjoying appetizers, beverages and conversation!
Lyda Harris, Ph.D. candidate and researcher from the University of Washington, was a 2019 award recipient from VMF's Marjorie and Joseph Rubenson Endowment for Art and Science at Volcan Mountain. Her interests span contamination levels of microplastics in our waterways, to how they affect the physiology of different organisms, and how public perception acts in public policy.
Harris' training and research interests have led her to the San Diego and San Dieguito watersheds, where she and dedicated volunteers have gathered water samples which were then processed in Seattle. The microplastics were identified, and processing concluded by characterizing the debris.
Light appetizers will be provided free of charge and beverages may be purchased by attendees.
