Citizen Science Bird Survey on Volcan Mountain, Thursday, November 30, 2017 8:15 am

Date:
Thursday, November 30, 2017 - 8:15am

Thursday, November 30th join Volcan Mountain Foundation partners the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy (SDRVC) and Palomar Audubon for a citizen science bird survey on SDRVC's Volcan Mountain parcels near Julian. This is a great opportunity to hone your bird ID skills with experts, learn about our local mountain bird species, and contribute valuable data to the San Dieguito River Park.

Volunteers will meet at 8:15 am at the gravel pull-out directly across from the turn off to Camp Cedar Glen on Farmer Road. 'Down the Hill' volunteers can meet at Albertsons in Ramona at 7:30 am and carpool to the survey site in Julian. For more info, email Conservation Manager Jack Hughes at jack@sdrvc.org for Julian location and timing details.

Get your binoculars ready – you might just see a Hairy Woodpecker or a Golden Eagle, both of which have been spotted during previous surveys. This walking survey is approximately 0.85 mile (round-trip) and provides stunning views of the Santa Ysabel East Preserve and surrounding area.

Register with SDRVC on Eventbrite
(Registration is recommended so that the event organizer can update you if any changes come up.)

When: Thursday, November 30th at 8:15 am.
Where: Gravel pullout directly across from the turn-off to Camp Cedar Glen on Farmer Road

*Please note: The survey area is approximately 4,100 feet in elevation and will require some moderate hiking. Participants should come prepared with closed-toe shoes, long pants and plenty of water & snacks.
