This Saturday, September 28, the Volcan Mountain Foundation will be having Family Discovery Day! 

Come by VMF's Volcan Mountain Nature Center with your friends and family to learn about the unique ecosystems and wildlife on Volcan Mountain. There will be fun educational nature activities throughout the day, including creating a rainstorm effect on a 3D watershed relief map, making a shelter from branches, and going on a gentle guided plant walk on VMF's Watershed Trail. You'll also have the opportunity to enjoy "wild" refreshments. See below for a list of scheduled activities. 

This event is free. All ages welcome.  No registration required

Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Location: VMF's Volcan Mountain Nature Center: 22850 Volcan Road, Julian, CA 92036                                                   (Follow Farmer Road until it ends).

Bring: Water, snacks or lunch, sunscreen.

Wear: Comfortable and sturdy shoes.

Scheduled Activities:

1.  10:00 am - 11:00 am:  3D Watershed Map - Participate in a fun activity that shows how rain water flows                                                over Volcan Mountain and makes its way to the Pacific Ocean.

2.  11:00 am - 12:00 pm:  Animal Skulls and Predator-Prey Games - Learn about the wildlife who live on                                                Volcan Mountain by  observing the unique features of each animal. 

3.  12:00 pm - 1:00 pm:   Lunch with Optional Scavenger Hunt and Blind Walk

4.  1:00 pm - 2:00 pm:     Shelter Building - Make a debris hut using fallen branches, twigs, and leaves.

5.  2:00 pm - 3:00 pm:     Plant and Tree Walk - Meet the beautiful trees and plants who live along VMF's                                                  Watershed Trail. 

6.  3:00 pm - 4:00 pm:     Fire-Making Demonstration - Watch how fire is made using a bow and spindle,                                               notched fire-board, and a pine knot.
