Almost Super Full Moon Night/Sunset Hike on Volcan Mountain, Saturday, December 2, 2017 3:00 pm

Date:
Saturday, December 2, 2017 - 3:00pm

Saturday, December 2nd join us for a late fall, almost-super-full-moon hike on scenic Volcan Mountain. Take in the panoramic views while hiking the Five Oaks trail. Enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Julian. From the trail, on a clear day you can see the buildings in downtown San Diego and Islands off the coast of Mexico and Southern California.

The approximately 7-mile hike will include an elevation gain of approximately 1,000 feet in two miles. Park Attendant Bill Augustus will share interesting history and geography about the area. From the summit you can enjoy an incredible view of San Felipe Valley and the desert. We will arrive at the summit just before sunset to enjoy the coastal view as the sun sets. We will hike down the mountain during a Super Full Moon.

The hike will be cancelled if it rains.

Wear: sturdy hiking shoes and dress in layers as the temperature can change dramatically as we reach the summit

Bring: a flashlight for the hike down the mountain in the dark, plenty of water and you might want a snack

Park: along Farmer Road and walk 300 ft. up the gravel driveway to meet at the Hubbell gateway at 8:00am; Please consider carpooling with people from your area -- we can all do our part to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and help the county meet its Climate Action Plan (http://www.sandiegocounty.gov/pds/advance/climateactionplan.html) goals.

Location: 1209 Farmer Road, Julian, CA 92036; just north of the Wynola Road intersection with Farmer Road.
