Sunday, May 18th 2 Hikes: 1 on Volcan Mountain & 1 on Santa Ysabel Preserve East

Choose one of two hikes on Sunday, May 18th to explore Volcan Mountain and it's foothills.

Join Docent Sally Snipes--Julian's 'Daffodil Lady' and a native plant expert--from 8am-11am to hike the County's Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve Five Oaks Trail.  The Volcan Mountain guided hike concludes two-days of films and festivities as part of the 3rd Annual Julian Wild & Scenic Film Festival, May 16th & 17th.  The festival is sponsored by and benefits the Volcan Mountain Foundation.  Visit www.JulianFilmFestival.com for information and tickets for the environmentally-focused film festival.  Hikers should park along the road at 1209 Farmer Road and meet at the Hubbell Gateway trailhead at the end of the gravel path.

Later risers can join Ranger Bobbi at 10am at the County's Santa Ysabel Preserve East (500 Farmer Road Staging Area) for a hike around the Kanaka Loop Trail alongside the Santa Ysabel Creek.  She will point out the beautiful wildflowers along the way and discuss the history of the area.  Learn about the cattle and how they help maintain the diversity of the plant life.  Dogs are welcome but must be leashed.  For more information on this San Diego County Parks and Rec event, please contact the local staff office at 760-765-4098.

All hikers should wear appopriate hiking shoes and bring water.
